Sapphire 1.0.0 Android ROM Is Out

Sapphire 1.0.0, a superlative custom ROM for the Motorola Droid, was just released. You can upgrade to it via ROM Manager using the steps I previously wrote. Just substitute build 1.0.0 for 0.8.4. You still have to downgrade to ClockworkMod 2.0.1.3 to update using ROM Manager (i.e. ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1. won’t reboot your phone when installing this rom).

I just upgraded (I wiped cache and data, just to be sure), and so far things are working very well.

I had sapphire 0.7.0. running on my phone and have been trying to get sapphire 0.8.4. flashed with no luck. Kept rebooting back to 0.7.0. I found your post here about changing ClockWork Mod to downgrade, so I tried that so I could flash 1.0.0….did not work so upgraded ClockWork Mod back to newest version and flashed to 1.0.0. and it worked flawlessly. Now I am enjoying 1.0.0. thanks to your site and a little trial and error. Thank You!

I might clarify; ClockWork Mod 2.5.0.1. won’t reboot from 0.7.0. to 0.8.4.; you would need ClockWork Mod 2.0.3.1. for that. To go from 0.7.0. to 1.0.0. you will need ClockWork Mod 2.5.0.1.. I never installed 0.8.4. so I am not sure of the ClockWork Mod version but I gather from here it is 2.0.3.1.

I have had all manner of problems with the last several (5-6?) releases of ClockworkMod. Not only do the more recent versions not work with ROMs such as Sapphire, they also don’t reboot my phone into recovery mode unless I reflash the recovery each time. ClockworkMod’s web site says that some ROMs are incompatible, and that’s the fault of the ROM, not of the recovery. I’m not 100% sure that the ROM is my only problem. I’m sticking with ClockworkMod 2.0.1.3 for now. I’ve had such good experiences I’m not yet willing to use an alternative. I just hope that the kinks get worked out of it in the next release.

I may go back to CyanogenMod 6.0 when it gets beyond the release candidate stage. Maybe ClockworkMod works best with CyanogenMod installed.
